Exceptional tango dancers and choreographers, Noel and Pablo are a perfect match for one another. Both began their dance training as children in Argentina &  chose as young adults  to pursue dance careers in  North American, where they eventually met and married in Montreal. They  teach at Studio Tango in Montreal and will be traveling to Halifax with their daughter Camila, age 4.
On my first  trips to Argentina in 1995 & 96, I was fortunate to study with Pablo’s parents, Mingo and Esther Pugliese, esteemed  Buenos Aires tango instructors. Pablo was a teaching assistant with our tour group and later traveled to Colorado to teach with his mother. To this day, I attribute my understanding  of tango turns & sacadas to  the Pugliese method and Pablo’s patience!
Noel has had a long association with Halifax tango folks, since 2006 when she rescued a group of overwhelmed Halifax dancers attending their first Montreal tango festival! Her special guidance  made a lasting impression, and  Michael Scott and Frances Early subsequently brought her  to Halifax to teach.
I admire Pablo and Noel for their persistence exploration of the discipline of tango not  only as  an exquisite social dance but also a powerful medium for expressing modern  ideas on the stage, and they clearly know the difference! They are skilled teachers. This weekend is going to be fantastic!

8:15-9:30 Class II
Abrazo and Connection (All-levels)
The first and most important aspect that defined Argentine tango! Pablo and Noel will help you explore the connection with your partner and  the dynamics of the bodies in embrace, giving you the comfort that you always desired.

2:00-3:30 Class III
Milonga: Playing with Rhythms (All levels)
Pablo and Noel will share with you  some of their favourite combinations in Milonga. The class is designed to provide the student with the necessary tools to be able to improvise and enjoy the dance on the floor.

4:00-5:30 Class IV
Old Steps/New Approaches (Int)
Noel says “the title is somehow descriptive of what we do. By taking advantage of Pablo’s knowledge of the older styles and steps, we trace their evolution and how they changed in time, usually in the analysis of certain figure, looked at it in depth.”
March 20, Sunday / 1313 Hollis St
2:00-3:30 Class V
The Pugliese’s 8-Count Turn (Adv)
An impressive systematic approach to the tango giro or turn, created by Pablo’s father, tango master Mingo Pugliese.  Excellent training for both leaders and followers.
4:00-5:30 Class VI
Rebotes & Changes of Direction (Adv)
Pablo and Noel will help you understand and use rebounds and changes of direction, two of the most versatile and useful elements of tango dancing.

Beginner =  focus on fundamental tango principles. For those, still taking beginner classes, &  anyone wanting the fundamentals.
Intermediate = Taking your fundamental principle into more complex tango structures. Social dance fluency with tango basics required.
Advanced =  a detailed investigation into challenging figures & combinations. Requires familiarity with a range of tango concepts, ability to digest complex material with possibility of integrating it into your social dance.
All-levels = a fundamental concept or step as applied at all-levels, so  material is of interest to experienced dancers, yet accessible to less experienced.
If you don’t know your level, ask your instructor or check with Margaret!
