We can now have a regular milonga but you can read about how to practice being at a milonga now the less. and my other descriptions of what distinguishes a milonga from a practica:

The DJ ed music will for the three dances that comprise the Argentine tango: the Tango , the Vals and the milonga,. It will be played in sets of three songs, each separated by a short 30 second “curtain” (cortina) to indicate a change to another orchestra or dance style. Generally there are two sets (tandas)  of tango followed by either a milonga or vals set (tanda).

The etiquette of dancing at a milonga will be practiced (see details below)!

In order to attend, you must pre-register and pre-pay, and abide by the protocols mandated by NS health and Edgett studio, such as masking on the dance floor, and distancing as mandated.Stay home if you are sick or have been exposed to Covid, or should be in quarantine.

What to practice:

These forms are customary:  Once you begin dancing,  remain dancing with the same partner for the duration of that set. When you wish to rest or dance with a different person, exit the floor during the curtain (cortina) between sets. Always thank the person with whom you have been dancing before rushing off the floor, and you may wish to escort them to their seat.

The invitation to dance is often initiated by making  eye-contact followed by mutual nods, or the “Cabaceo”. If your gaze and nod are not returned,  that’s considered a “no thanks”. However, in our community most people approach one another and use verbal invitations. Some newer dancers are  not familiar with the cabeceo in Halifax,  so if  your gaze and nod  go unnoticed, it may be the recipient was oblivious to the custom!

The spacious ballroom will be set up with tables and chairs in which you can relax when not dancing.  In this manner, you will practice how to behave as if you were at a milonga, so in the future, when we have them, you will be an expert in the etiquette.

Social distancing will be practiced as dictated.  Masking on the dance floor is required by Edgett Studio at this time. Rotation will be optional.

Hand sanitizer provided.
