Course Description
Build on what you know and acquire the skills you need independently to communicate together on the dance floor. Using familiar points of contact as a place of departure, students will develop figures that invite participation from followers as much as leads.
Touches, taps, kicks or wraps? Combinations may include bits of callecitas, sacadas, sweeps, ganchos, boleos, embellishments, and so forth. The point here is not to master a step concept but to co-create as a group of men and women, a dance that is engaging for both roles, depending on your abilities. Exercises presented to improve posture and mechanics as well as encourage expression. Let’s show the world: It Takes Two to Tango!
Registration & level info: Please call me if you have any questions re your level. I do not expect students to have mastered these concepts, but at least have some basic exposure/familiarity with them and a motivation to learn about their best use. Dancers do not need to do everything to be interesting! I will base the material on the collective tango knowledge of the participants. I am also sensitive to aging bodies and know there are followers that understand the definition of a high boleo but most prudently are not going to risk injury attempting to do one! Most tango moves adapt well to a smaller less vigorous execution, with the exception of the classic gancho, which done half-way, fails it’s name: to hook!
Please pre-register by email, text or phone. Payment is excepted by e-transfer, cash, or cheque to M.Spore. I need a commitment of 8 plus people in order to use a rented studio fro the class. Less than 8 and I will make other arrangements. Role balances maintained when possible.
Cost: 6 weeks = $80/couples $150
Plus $10 for series if enrolment is 6 or less!
Schedule: Wednesday, Oct 30 is not part of the class series. It will be devoted to review of Bobby Thomspon’s weekend, a separate & additional class for those who attended his workshops.
