Class Topic: March 19 – The Colgada (lit. to hang)! = A fluid postural move that produces a counter balance between the lead and the follow in order to allow a “hanging: moment for the follower’s free leg during a turn or, when done linearly, a sudden back boleo. We will first play with postural connecting exercises to experience the counter-balance sensation with a partner, and then try out a turning colgada move. (Level: see below))
Level: (usually intermediate and/or a adv-beginner with good body awareness!) = Unlike some tango figure that can be done by imitating the step directions of the teacher, the off axis moves (colgadas and volcadas) all require experiential learning, a feeling of the connection – they cannot be done without allowing the physical sensation of off-axis in relationship to another body. Such a skill takes less tango knowledge in terms of steps than you might think… what it does take is a willingness to let go and trust one’s own body and that of one’s partner.
The preparatory exercises will inform you of your comfort level with these type of moves.
Cost: $18 includes practica until 3 pm.
