FOOTLOOSE & FANCY FREE: TANGO IMPROVISATION & MUSICALITY (an all-levels approach to an essential tango skill)
Are you ready to move away from the memorization of step patterns and take your dance to another level?
At the beginning, most students learn a few simple patterns which they are asked to mix up (or improvise), but shortly thereafter an obsession with step combinations takes hold; teachers comply by offering a countless number of impressive figures. Here’s a chance to stop accumulating steps patterns, learn about improvisation and begin to acquire the special skill that defines the tango: dancing in the here & now with yourself, your partner and the music!
Pre-requisite: A large vocabulary is not required, but you should feel confident with some steps that you generally dance socially, even if that is only walking patterns and turning corners
