Learn the Ins and Outs of Dancing Close!
 8 sessions
Wednesday, Sept 19-Nov 7
8-9:30 pm
Level = Intermediate (familiar with crossed and parallel walks to the cross, ocho cortado, a turn or two, navigation). Previous close embrace experience helpful but not required.
Class Description
1. Immerse yourself in the benefits of a closer connection & discover the  fun rhythmic walks  & turns that it supports.
2. Then learn to alter the embrace to accommodate a few  signature tango figures: i.e.paradas, ganchos or sweeps.  Also learn which figures work better in close!
3. Several traditional figures will be introduced  to facilitate embrace adjustment and skillful use in the context of the social dance floor. You may or may not  be familiar with them – no problem. Bring your regular tango vocabulary with you, and be prepared to learn or re-learn, paying attention to the energy of the embrace, active partnering, and proper navigation.

 4. Emphasis on creating  continuity between our close traveling dance  and more static moments of display, rather than acquiring more figures.

“Contemporary”  milonguero/a  =  a man or woman dancer,  the combining of traditional tango style with newer approaches, the desire to do it all! My goal is to offer Halifax dancers the tools to support  both the  investigation and integration of  tango concepts, based on my observations of how tango is being danced in the popular places I’ve visited, and my own evolution as a tango dancer & teacher of 20+ years.
