Dawn Promo 1 1020 2020Over the summer I listened to a wonderful interactive Zoom lecture and immediately wanted to share it with everyone I knew!
Please join me virtually or in person  for Tangonova’s  inaugural Zoom Hosted Event:
The Dawn Of Tango “African Roots” , a lecture with Pierre Baston (zooming in from Philadelphia).
Thursday, Nov 12, 7-8:30  pm (followed by weekly practica, for those who attend in person).
Since in Nova Scotia  we are now permitted (with  a few restrictions)  to gather to dance,  yet some people feel safer at home, this will be a hybrid event:
Local dancers may either attend the Zoom  lecture together as a group, followed by our weekly Practica,  OR Zoom in from home!
Other interested people, both from Nova Scotia and  tango communities across Canada, are also welcome to attend from home  via zoom.
Registration
Attend in person at DanSpace Studio & enjoy the practica after, or Zoom in from home.
7- 8:30 pm Lecture with  Q & A
8:30–9:45 pm Community Practica
DanSpace, third floor
1531 Grafton St, Halifax
Cost: per person

Please address any questions or concerns  to Margaret at 902-229-8585.
Take advantage of the offer to hear this lecture for  $15 CAD rather than the usual  $15 USD.
Due to the travel restrictions outside of the Atlantic bubble, none of our favourite teachers can travel here nor we to them. We are missing the collective learning experiences that so enhanced our tango growth as a community.  By  investing in the technology to host guests via Zoom, my intention is to continue to  offer events that will benefit and  sustain our community, as we wait out the pandemic.   If the lecture is successful, I will follow with more seminars and maybe even a guest teacher workshop!
I am indebted to Meredith Klein of the Philadelphia tango school for introducing me to Pierre and inspiring me with her use of “hybrid” Zoom.

The Dawn of Tango: “African Roots

a Zoom event by Pierre Baston

An interactive discussion with images, music, video and text revealing the seminal (and surprising) black contribution to tango music and dance. From Argentina’s 19th-century African candombe dance parties, to the milongas and Mundiales (World Tango Championships) of today: see the connection, and learn about the long-concealed black influences on the dance we love.

Pierre studied African history for a time as an undergraduate at Yale University, and earned a Masters Degree in Film Directing from the American Film Institute. He has pursued his passion for tango in many visits to Argentina since 2001, and holds 2 certificates from the Master’s Program of the Escuela Argentina de Tango in Buenos Aires. An inventor, Pierre has been awarded several patents in the US, Japan and Argentina for his innovative travel brewers for coffee, tea, and mate, Argentina’s national drink. Pierre teaches and organizes tango in his native Philadelphia.
